Flu Signs & Symptoms
What are the signs, symptoms and common treatments for influenza (flu)? Star Valley Health and its satellite clinics have confirmed laboratory cases of influenza A and B strains. Influenza (flu) can cause mild to severe illness, usually comes on suddenly and is different from the common cold. Dr. Clayton Brown, a family practice provider in our Afton Clinic states, “Most people who get influenza can treat themselves at home, and don’t need to see a doctor. However, for some people with risk factors for severe disease, influenza could lead to pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma flare-ups, heart problems, and can even be deadly in those with chronic diseases. The flu can be most dangerous in babies and children younger than 5 years, adults over 65 years, pregnant women, those with weakened immune systems, and those with chronic illnesses. If you have flu symptoms and are at risk of complications, see your doctor right away.”
Signs and symptoms may include:
- dry cough
- sore throat
- runny or stuffy nose
- fatigue
- fever* or feeling feverish/chills
- headaches
- vomiting and diarrhea
*Not everyone will experience a fever.
