It can be distressing to feel like something is “off” in your body. And a test result may point to a major health challenge. Or it may bring peace of mind, and even relief.
That was the case for Dave Mosgeller. A 20+ year leukemia survivor, Dave recently found himself feeling severely fatigued, which was affecting his active living. Dave checked in with his oncologist in Jackson.
“Dr. Cohen noted that I was extremely anemic. She forwarded her recommendations to Star Valley Health, and they had all the information they needed when I met with Dr. Kirk for the initial consultation.”
After his consultation, Dave was scheduled for an endoscopy with Dr. Kirk at our Alpine facility. He describes the team dynamic: “They were professional and welcoming, and they made me feel as if I was their sole focus for the day.”
Endoscopies are typically outpatient procedures. They serve a wide range of purposes, from screening for cancer to diagnosing autoimmune conditions. Dave was diagnosed with gastritis, or inflammation of the stomach lining.
Says Dave, “Obviously I would have preferred not to have that kind of diagnosis – but in an odd way, I was relieved. I thought, ‘Okay. At least we have an answer. It’s something that’s manageable, and we can begin treatment.’”
That treatment has come in the form of medication and lifestyle modifications – and months later, Dave is optimistic. “The blood work is trending upwards. Trending towards healing. I’m being really diligent about what my care team wants me to do. And so hopefully we’ll continue this way.”
Dave’s energy levels are also returning, just in time for summer. He speaks to the importance of timely healthcare: “I would encourage anyone feeling any difference in their body to be proactive in seeking out answers.”
