For some patients, the sight of a needle brings immediate anxiety. But with phlebotomist Sara Malik, you can put your mind at ease. “We just let patients know that we’re understanding,” says Sara. “Don’t you worry. We’ve got this.“
Sara draws blood and performs blood tests for patients throughout our hospital, from the ER to the med-surg unit. Blood tests play a key role in helping our team make a timely diagnosis. For example, a cardiac biomarker test can reveal if a patient has just had a heart attack, while a blood glucose test can alert the team to a diabetic emergency.
“Blood work gives you a really good look at what’s going on inside your body,” explains Sara. “If there’s a problem, that’s when we can catch it.”
